The beauty of South Florida attracts abundant bicyclists who enjoy the sport while savoring the scenery. There are also a number of accidents, as in 2017 Florida led the list of bicycle accidents in the U.S. Residents of the Key Biscayne area as well as other areas of Florida might be interested in knowing about a new bike lane that is coming to Crandon Boulevard.
According to Islander News, this bike lane is being built to ensure the safety of riders. It is being built 1.5 miles from the northern boundary of the village.
However, there is dissent from one councilman, Luis Lauredo, who feels it will bring outsiders to Key Biscane. They are not village residents, and spending taxpayer money on their enjoyment is not the best idea. Furthermore, bringing these bicyclists to the island will add to changing the character if the village haven. Lauredo feels that it is a waste of money as difficult economic times may lie ahead. He is struggling to find it beneficial to the village.
On the other hand, Councilwoman Katie Petros sees it as a means of safety: An important factor for all bicyclists, not just those from Key Biscayne. Safety will be enhanced with the green color of the lane. Symbols will alert motorists at intersections, making them more aware of the bike lanes. Intersections are often the place where the accidents occur, and the new bike lanes will help prevent that.
Motor vehicle accidents can occur between cyclists and vehicles as well as between two vehicles. There might also be an accident between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle. It is important to consult with a knowledgeable lawyer who represents victims if a person has been injured in an accident. Drunk drivers, speeders and more can all cause costly injury from accidents; an attorney might help with resolution.
